SCHOOL NEWS & Key Dates
UPDATE FROM MR ROBERTS

Mrs Hunter promised (or perhaps warned) in a past newsletter that I’d be making an appearance at some point and finally here I am.
I have some good news first of all. Mrs Roberts, my partner in crime, has been planting the beds by the front gates again so hopefully we’ll all benefit from some colour there fairly soon. I know that Mrs Roberts very much appreciated the kind comments she received from many of you last year which made her efforts worthwhile.
I find that I have multiple hats at TPS these days but the one that will always matter most to me is my volunteering hat. I mostly work with Year 6, however, if they are otherwise engaged I also enjoy reading with other year groups. I am always struck by the enthusiasm for reading among TPS pupils. Mrs Roberts mostly works with Year 5 (same rules apply).
It was a particular pleasure for me recently to present some prizes at a school assembly following a ‘Marvin’ creative writing competition that we had (Marvin of course being Year 6’s adopted alien). The stories were a lot of fun to read and were of a very good standard with most of the work being done in the children’s own time.
I’m also the TPS safeguarding governor so it would be remiss of me not to say anything about this. My principal concern is keeping everyone on our school site safe. The journey to/from the site is also important and I would request that everyone plays their part in making this a safe environment. Thanks come not from me but from all our children.
YEAR 6
A huge well done to all our Year 6 children for finishing their SATs! We are incredibly proud of all their hard work.
To celebrate, we spent a day at Wilverley Plain, where the children got to wear their new Class of ’26 leavers’ hoodies for the first time!
A day with friends in the (partial!) sunshine was a great way to end a busy week and enjoy some well-earned relaxation time.

TENNIS FESTIVAL
On Tuesday 6th May, we took 8 children from Years 3 and 4 to the tennis festival at the Christchurch Tennis Facility.
The children competed in doubles matches against five other schools, working together as a team over five exciting rounds. They showed fantastic teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.
We are delighted to announce that our team finished in 1st place with an impressive 183 points, ahead of CJS who came second with 149 points. A brilliant achievement by all involved!
The festival was also the first opportunity for the children to wear our brand-new sports shirts, and they represented the school brilliantly both on and off the court. Well done to everyone who took part!

DAVID ATTENBOROUGH DAY
Last Friday, we celebrated the 100th birthday of David Attenborough with a wonderful day dedicated to nature and wildlife.
It was fantastic to see all the creative costumes, and the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a variety of fun-filled nature activities throughout the day.

FARMYARD TRIP
Elmers had so much fun on our school trip to Longdown Dairy Farm!
We enjoyed a tour led by Farmer Sandy, who showed us lots of different farm animals such as cows, goats, pigs and horses.
Elmers were so excited to feed the baby goats and cows, they even got to carefully hold a baby chick! We also carefully carried an egg freshly laid to the farm shop.
Well done Elmers on being fantastic on our trip, and a big thank you to our parent helpers!

WOODLAND WEDNESDAY DATES
Please see below the Woodland Wednesday Schedule for the Summer Term.
On their specific dates, the children will need to wear appropriate clothing, including waterproofs if the weather is due to be wet – please be aware they may get mucky, so old clothing would be best, and some spare clothes to change into following the activity in the event of wet weather is also advised.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Just a reminder that the Scholastic Book Fair will be in school from Wednesday 3rd June at 3:05pm and will run up to and including Friday 5th June.
This is a great opportunity for children to discover new books and encourage a love of reading.
Payments can be made by cash or card; however, cash is much easier for the school as the Scholastic card machine does not always work reliably.
We look forward to seeing you there!
SCHOOL NURSE DROP IN SESSION
We are pleased to let you know that Fiona, from the Dorset Healthcare Nursery Nurse Team, will be returning for a parent drop in session on Wednesday 20th May between 8.45am and 9.45am. There is no need to book; places are on a first come, first served basis on the day.
She can offer advice on a range of topics including sleep, toileting, eating and general parenting. She cannot diagnose general medical ailments (rashes etc.) and the sessions are for parents only.

A LITTLE TREAT FOR OUR FAMILIES FROM CHICKEN & BLUES
We’re delighted to share that Twynham Primary School has been selected as a ‘School of the Month’ by Chicken & Blues as part of their local community initiative.
This recognition comes following a nomination from within our community, and as a result, families are being offered a complimentary C&B Juniors Meal - available for either dine-in or collection at their Christchurch, Winton or Ashley Cross restaurants.
The initiative forms part of the launch of their new C&B Juniors Activity Sets, designed to keep children entertained while dining, and we’re very grateful to be included in this celebration.
To redeem your complimentary meal, simply follow the link below and register - your reward will then be added to your account.
Chicken & Blues are also supporting Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity throughout 2026, donating from every Juniors Meal sold to help fund specialist nurses supporting seriously ill children and their families.
We hope you enjoy this kind gesture and thank Chicken & Blues for supporting our community.
NEW GAMING AND ONLINE BULLYING RESOURCES
In collaboration with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), new resources have been published on the Kids online safety website to support parents and carers with online bullying and gaming.
These new sections aim to help families feel more confident in understanding and discussing what children are doing and experiencing online.
Please see details of the new topics covered below and click here to access this resource

BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB BOOKING
Booking is compulsory for both Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club. Due to limited spaces, a place must be booked before the session begins.
Bookings can be made via your child’s Arbor account and must be completed at least 48 hours in advance of the session.
CLASS ASSEMBLIES
We are delighted to invite Parents and Carers to view their child's Class Assembly.
Please arrive by 2:45pm and enter via the School Hall entry door.
Details of the dates they will take place are provided below.
