Pupil Premium, introduced in 2011, is funding received from the Government with the aim of narrowing the gap in attainment between pupils from low income families and their peers.
Those pupils who are in receipt of Free School Meals, or who have had Free School Meals in the last 6 years, are eligible for support with this Premium, as are pupils who are currently in care.
The aims of this funding are to:
- Provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils
- Close the gap as rapidly as possible between the achievement of these pupils and their peers of corresponding ability.
- Use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium and those who are not.
A key aspect of our spending is on improving the levels of literacy and numeracy since this is where the greatest impact can be made, enabling pupils to access the whole curriculum.
