SCHOOL NEWS & Key Dates
HEADTEACHER MESSAGE
With the sun shining again (at long last!), please, please make sure jackets and jumpers are clearly named. The children head outside at lunchtime, run around to warm up, then ditch their jumpers and often forget them at the end of break.
We regularly end up with 20-plus jumpers — and only about half of them are named, which makes returning them very tricky!
Thank you so much!
YOUNG VOICES
Last Wednesday, our Year 6 children travelled to the O2 in London to be part of Young Voices- the world’s largest children's choir!
After months of practicing in school, the children performed a fantastic selection of songs, including a spectacular Wicked musical medley, an energetic pop medley and the brilliant Disco Fever medley, which had everyone up on their feet dancing! Singing alongside a live band and professional performers created an electric atmosphere that the children will remember for years to come.
A huge thank you to the staff and families for their support in making this amazing opportunity possible. Well done, Year 6 - you were amazing!

MISS CRUM AS A READER
My love for books began when I was very young, as my mum and dad took turns reading a range of bedtime stories to my sister and I. Those cosy bedtimes sparked a love of stories that has stayed with me ever since.
Once I learned to read independently, there was no stopping me! On many occasions, I would get into trouble for hiding on the landing and reading well past my bedtime. I adored the Harry Potter series - the top left photograph shows me receiving the final book for my 10th birthday. Other childhood favourites included Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, Wonder by R J Palacio and A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
As an adult, my love of reading is just as strong. My favourite place to read is on a sunny beach, where I can completely lose myself in a book. My Kindle has been a game changer for travelling - endless books in one small device, much to my sister’s annoyance as I can happily sit in silence for hours on holiday! If I’m not by the sea, then reading with a coffee and a slice of cake is a very close second.
As Year 6 teacher, I love sharing books with my class. This year, my favourite class read has been The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie. Thanks to recommendations from the children, I have also enjoyed The Final Year by Matt Goodfellow and The Library of Lemons by Jo Cotterill.
If you have any brilliant book recommendations, please come and share them with me.
Happy reading, TPS!

ELMERS P.E.
Last week in PE, Elmers had lots of fun learning how to use rackets, bats and balls. Mr Rickard focused on building their basic coordination and control skills through play.
The children started with a keepy-uppy challenge using balloons. They practised gently tapping the balloon and trying to keep it in the air for as long as they could. There were lots of smiles and giggles as they chased their balloons, showing great determination and improving their hand-eye coordination.
After that, they moved on to hand tennis with a partner. The children worked together to tap the ball back and forth, seeing how long they could keep a rally going. They did a wonderful job of taking turns, encouraging each other and trying their very best.
It was lovely to see their confidence growing and their teamwork shining throughout the lesson.

ELMERS ROLE PLAY AREA
This week, we set up our brand-new role play kitchen in Elmers’ classroom.
The children have loved exploring the space, using their imaginations to cook meals, set the table and work together in their very own kitchen.
It has already inspired lots of wonderful conversations, teamwork and creative play!

YEAR 5 AND 6 WOODLAND WEDNESDAY
The children have made the most of the sunshine while exploring the woodland environment and developing their outdoor learning skills and learning about different types of fungi.
They learnt about King Alfred’s Cakes, discovering how this distinctive fungus grows on dead wood and was traditionally used to help carry embers from place to place. The children also identified a fungus that grows on silver birch trees, known for its medicinal properties, and discussed how it has been used in herbal remedies.
They also learnt about campfire safety and explored different methods for lighting a campfire, including the traditional technique using flint and stone.
Two lovely sessions of sunshine, outdoor learning and teamwork.

BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB BOOKING
Booking is compulsory for both Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club. Due to limited spaces, a place must be booked before the session begins.
Bookings can be made via your child’s Arbor account and must be completed at least 48 hours in advance of the session.

BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK IS COMING!
British Science Week will be happening this year between the 9-13 March, in preparation for our annual Science Fair taking place on 17th April!
This year’s theme is ‘Curiosity: what’s your question?’ leaving lots of room for individual ideas and thoughts.
